Claude Chrome Cowork Session Upgrades App Connectivity
Anthropic has transformed its Claude Chrome side panel into a full Cowork session. This major update lets browser tasks and conversations move smoothly across all Claude platforms. Users can now start a task in their web browser and finish it elsewhere without losing progress.
The company announced the change as part of a push to improve workflow portability. Conversations started inside the Chrome side panel now save directly to your account history. You can easily resume those sessions on the Claude desktop app, web interface, or mobile app.
Existing skills and account connectors now work right inside the browser. You do not need any extra setup steps to use them. Claude in Chrome can view your open webpage and take direct action. It uses your active web logins to complete complex tasks.
The updated tool can click on links and navigate across multiple pages. It can also type text and fill out web forms automatically. Anthropic highlighted a real workflow to show how this works in practice. A user can ask Claude to fetch invoice details from several vendor sites and create a new spreadsheet. The user can then open that same session on a desktop app. From there, they can attach local files or compare data against past budgets.
This expansion resolves a big gap in previous browser setups. In the past, side panel chats remained isolated from other Claude apps. Important context was often left behind when switching devices. Now, every session stays synced and accessible everywhere.
Anthropic recently showcased an in-app browser for its coding tools that uses a separate profile. In contrast, this new Chrome extension works right inside your active web accounts. This design choice gives the AI direct access to your online tools and data.
However, web-based AI tools carry specific security risks. Anthropic warned that browser agents remain vulnerable to prompt injection attacks. These risks occur when bad actors hide malicious commands inside online text.
To keep users safe, Anthropic built strong protection measures into the software. A second security check reviews major actions when automatic approvals are turned on. Claude will always stop and ask for permission before sensitive steps. It requests user approval before buying products or sharing private data. Anthropic noted that these safety steps reduce risk, though no security system is completely perfect.
The new Cowork side panel feature is live today for Max and Team account holders. Pro plan subscribers will gain access to the update over the coming weeks. Enterprise plan administrators have full control over the rollout. They can turn the feature on and restrict AI browsing to trusted company web domains.
Currently, Claude in Chrome only works on the standard desktop Chrome browser. It does not yet support mobile devices or other Chromium browsers.
This release shows clear progress in web automation tech. By making tasks portable across desktop and mobile screens, Claude helps people work faster and smarter everywhere.
