Leah Williamson Playlist Reveals Surprising Music Picks
England captain Leah Williamson has shared the soundtrack to her life, revealing the songs that shaped her childhood, inspired her football journey, and still bring back powerful memories. From classic pop hits to football anthems, Williamson offered fans a personal look at the music that has stayed with her through the years.
Williamson said one of the first songs she truly loved was Hero by Enrique Iglesias. As a child, she owned only two cassette tapes. The other was How Do I Live by LeAnn Rimes. She remembered listening to both songs over and over with her cassette player and foam headphones.
Her first digital music download was Michaela Strachan by Scouting for Girls. Williamson said she found it interesting that a song had been written about television presenter Michaela Strachan, although she did not know who she was until later.
When it comes to karaoke, Williamson recalled that her first performance after joining Arsenal was Stand By Me by Ben E. King. Today, she said she would probably choose a Justin Bieber song instead, with One Less Lonely Girl among her favorites.
She also revealed that she knows every word to the songs featured on the soundtrack of Bridget Jones's Diary. Williamson explained that her mother often played the soundtrack during family car journeys, making the songs a lasting part of her childhood memories.
For celebrations, Williamson enjoys classic music that brings different generations together. She picked Never Too Much by Luther Vandross as one of her favorite party songs because it creates a lively atmosphere at family events and weddings.
Not every song brings happy memories. Williamson admitted that Where Are Ü Now became impossible for her to enjoy after it was played repeatedly in Arsenal's changing room. She said the track was heard so often that she now turns it off whenever it starts playing.
Football songs also hold a special place in her playlist. Williamson chose Three Lions as her favorite because it reminds her of England's victory at the 2022 European Championship. She said hearing fans sing "It's coming home" after winning the tournament remains one of her best memories. She also praised The Angel (North London Forever) by Louis Dunford, saying it still gives her goosebumps.
Among her secret favorites is Return to Sender by Elvis Presley. Williamson said it was often playing in her headphones as she traveled to football training.
One performance that left a lasting impact came from Norah Jones. Williamson attended the concert with her grandmother, who has introduced her to many live shows featuring artists including Paul Simon, Florence + the Machine, and Teddy Swims. She said hearing Come Away With Me performed live reminded her that music is about the shared experience rather than recording every moment.
Her current morning playlist includes Inner Smile by Texas and Billie (Loving Arms) by Fred again... She added that plenty of Michael Jackson has also been played around the training ground recently.
Williamson also shared that Dancing on My Own by Robyn still makes her emotional. She remembered becoming overwhelmed by the song at a New Year's Eve party when she was 16 and calling her mother to pick her up.
Looking far ahead, Williamson said she would prefer a joyful farewell rather than a sad one. She chose Believe by Cher or I'll Be Around by The Spinners as the songs she would like played, saying she hopes people celebrate and enjoy the moment rather than mourn.
