Nvidia CEO Joins Trump China Tech Summit
Jensen Huang joined Donald Trump on a major trip to China, highlighting the growing importance of artificial intelligence and global technology competition between the United States and China.
The billionaire head of Nvidia reportedly received a last-minute invitation to join the American delegation. Huang was later seen boarding Air Force One before Trump confirmed his participation publicly.
The summit in Beijing is expected to focus on artificial intelligence, trade disputes, tariffs, Taiwan, and the ongoing conflict involving Iran. Trump is meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping during the high-level visit.
The China trip marks Trump’s first overseas visit since the United States and Israel launched military strikes linked to Iran earlier this year. Global political and business leaders are closely watching the summit because of its possible impact on international trade and technology markets.
Huang joined several powerful American business executives already traveling with Trump. The delegation includes Elon Musk, Tim Cook, David Solomon, Larry Fink, Stephen Schwarzman, Kelly Ortberg, and Jane Fraser.
The strong presence of technology and financial leaders shows how important economic and AI competition has become in US-China relations.
Nvidia has become one of the most valuable companies in the world because of rising demand for AI computer chips. The company’s processors power many of the artificial intelligence systems now used by major businesses and technology firms worldwide.
Huang has repeatedly pushed for better access to the Chinese market. He previously described China as a business opportunity worth around $50 billion for Nvidia. However, export restrictions and trade tensions between Washington and Beijing have created major challenges for US chipmakers.
An Nvidia spokesperson said Huang joined the summit at Trump’s invitation to support the administration’s goals and strengthen America’s position in technology and AI development.
Trump later criticized media reports that claimed Huang had not been invited. Posting on his social media platform, the president said the “great Jensen Huang” was already aboard Air Force One, traveling to China with the delegation.
Trump also said he plans to encourage Xi Jinping to open China’s economy further to American companies and business leaders. He praised the executives joining the trip and suggested their work could help strengthen China’s economy while also benefiting American companies.
The summit comes during a tense period in US-China relations. Both countries continue to compete heavily in artificial intelligence, semiconductor production, electric vehicles, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
Taiwan is also expected to be a major topic during discussions. China considers Taiwan part of its territory, while the United States maintains close economic and military ties with the island.
Trade tariffs and restrictions on technology exports may also be discussed during the meetings. American officials have increasingly limited China’s access to advanced semiconductor technology because of national security concerns.
Huang’s growing influence in the global technology industry has expanded rapidly in recent years. Earlier this week, he became the seventh richest person in the world after Nvidia’s stock price continued to rise strongly.
According to Forbes estimates, Huang’s net worth reached more than $191 billion. Much of his wealth comes from his ownership stake in Nvidia, which has benefited from the worldwide AI boom.
Despite Nvidia’s strong long-term growth, the company experienced stock market pressure last year after investors worried about a possible artificial intelligence market bubble. Huang’s compensation package for the 2026 financial year reportedly fell by 27% because of the earlier stock decline.
Even so, Nvidia remains one of the most powerful companies in global technology, and Huang’s participation in the Beijing summit shows how central artificial intelligence has become in international politics and business strategy.
The outcome of Trump’s meetings with Xi and major US business leaders could shape future cooperation and competition between the world’s two largest economies for years to come.
