Russian Drone Strikes in Ukraine Two Dead and 13 Injured
During coordinated Russian drone attacks on multiple Ukrainian regions, at least two people were killed and 13 others injured on Saturday. Targets included civilian vehicles as well as energy and port infrastructure. KYIV. – Russian forces have intensified their airstrikes on the south and northeast of Ukraine. As Ukrainian authorities announced on Saturday, Russian troops launched massive swarms of drones overnight, resulting in deaths, injuries, and significant property damage. Deadly Attacks on Civilians in Kherson The southern Ukrainian region of Kherson was hit particularly hard. The region's governor, Oleksandr Prokudin, reported a targeted drone strike on a minibus in the Dniprovskyi district. Two people were killed—a municipal worker and a woman. Eight other people, including local utility workers, sustained injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Shortly afterward, Prokudin reported a second attack on another minibus in the Tsentralnyi district of the city of Kherson, where one additional person was injured. Infrastructure Damage and Massive Drone Deployment The Ukrainian Air Force stated that air defenses were able to shoot down 143 of a total of 162 Russian drones launched overnight. Nevertheless, the attacks had noticeable consequences in several regions: Odesa: In the southwest of the country, port infrastructure was targeted, according to Governor Oleh Kiper. Warehouses and outbuildings were damaged. Initial reports indicate there were no civilian casualties in this region. Kharkiv: Governor Oleh Synyehubov reported a drone striking a high-rise building, injuring one person. Three others were injured in separate attacks in the surrounding area. Mykolaiv: Following targeted attacks on energy infrastructure, Governor Vitaliy Kim reported significant power outages. Zelenskyy Warns of Air Defense Overload Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of deliberately trying to overwhelm Ukrainian air defense systems with the sheer volume of drones. He made an urgent appeal to partner countries to maintain international pressure on Moscow. There was initially no direct comment from the Russian side regarding the destruction in Ukraine. However, the Ministry of Defense in Moscow subsequently announced that its own air defenses had intercepted a total of 215 Ukrainian drones across several Russian regions, as well as over the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov, and the annexed Crimean Peninsula.
