Millions Join No Kings Protest Nationwide
Millions of Americans took to the streets on Saturday for the third No Kings protest 2026, a nationwide demonstration against the Trump administration. Organizers reported over 3,000 rallies across the United States and in more than a dozen countries. Groups involved included anti-authoritarian organizations, labor unions, and grassroots coalitions. Ezra Levin, co-founder of Indivisible, described the protest as historic, predicting it could be “the biggest protest in American history.” The last No Kings event in October drew roughly seven million participants nationwide.
The main event occurred in Minnesota’s Twin Cities, where Minneapolis and St Paul streets were filled with an estimated 200,000 people. Protesters gathered around the state capitol to mourn and speak out against federal policies. Independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders addressed the crowd, criticizing the influence of the ultra-rich in politics. Bruce Springsteen performed his song "Streets of Minneapolis," highlighting the impact of ICE operations, and led chants of “ICE out now!” Governor Tim Walz praised the community for defending immigrants, citing the deaths of local residents Renee Good and Alex Pretti during federal operations.
In New York City, multiple No Kings contingents merged in Times Square and outer boroughs. Prominent figures, including Attorney General Letitia James, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, actor Robert De Niro, Rev. Al Sharpton, and Padma Lakshmi, led the march carrying hand-painted banners promoting democracy and social equity. Marchers displayed LGBTQ+ pride flags, Palestinian flags, and anti-war messages. Many called for an end to ICE raids, increased access to healthcare, and infrastructure improvements. A Queens resident emphasized the public frustration with high costs of living and ongoing military conflicts.
Washington DC saw groups of protesters, including Palestinian mothers, display a 10-foot Palestinian flag at the Lincoln Memorial. Activists marched across the Frederick Douglass Bridge to Fort McNair, targeting federal officials’ residences. In Chicago, thousands gathered at Grant Park chanting against Trump and ICE, while speakers focused on labor rights and the protection of immigrant and trans communities. Organizers noted that more than two-thirds of participants were from outside major cities, including Republican-leaning regions and swing counties. Protests also took place in traditionally red areas like Lebanon, Pennsylvania; Midland, Texas; and Boise, Idaho. International demonstrations occurred in Tokyo, Paris, Berlin, Rome, and Sydney.
Protesters rallied against a wide range of issues, including immigration policies, voting rights, and war. Sarah Parker of Voices of Florida cited rising gas and grocery prices, as well as conflicts in Iran, as motivating factors. Organizers emphasized the nonviolent nature of No Kings Day. Leaders received de-escalation training, and weapons were prohibited. Previous events included incidents with firearms, which led to fatalities, highlighting the organizers’ focus on safety.
The White House and Republican leaders criticized the protests, calling them “Trump Derangement Therapy Sessions” funded by leftist groups. The Trump administration has pursued federal charges against anti-ICE protesters, including convictions related to a July Fourth demonstration in Texas. Civil liberties advocates warned participants of potential ICE presence and recommended reviewing ACLU resources on rights and safety. Organizers stressed that the event is part of ongoing efforts to build local power and challenge federal policies. Leah Greenberg, co-founder of Indivisible, said the march is both a display of defiance and a catalyst for continued organizing. “No Kings Day is only one part of the movement. Our work continues beyond this Saturday,” she said.
