NFL Star Rondale Moore Dies at 25
NFL wide receiver Rondale Moore has died at the age of 25, his former college coach Jeff Brohm confirmed on Saturday. Moore’s death has shocked fans, teammates, and the football community.
“Rondale Moore was a complete joy to coach,” Brohm said. “The ultimate competitor who never backed down. He had a work ethic unmatched by anyone and was a great teammate. We all loved Rondale, his smile, and his drive. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
Moore was well-liked in the locker room, and many of his former teammates paid tribute on social media. Three-time defensive player of the year JJ Watt, who played alongside Moore for the Arizona Cardinals, wrote: “There’s just no way. Way too soon. Way too special. So much left to give. Rest in Peace Rondale.”
Police in Moore’s hometown of New Albany, Indiana, told WHAS that the player had taken his own life. The news has drawn an outpouring of support for Moore’s family and loved ones.
Moore was born five weeks premature and went on to excel in basketball, track, and football in high school. He earned a football scholarship to Purdue University, choosing it over Texas. His cousin Gino Rowen said, “Premature babies are the strongest because they come out having to fight.”
At Purdue, Moore won the Paul Hornung Award as the most versatile college football player. Despite his small stature—listed at 5ft 7in and 181 pounds—he impressed NFL scouts with his speed, skill, and dedication. Moore himself acknowledged the challenges of his height, saying, “I knew the odds weren’t in my favor.”
Brohm recalled that Moore was motivated by family. “He wanted to be the guy in his family who makes it. That drive made him unique. He wasn’t a typical college freshman.” Moore often spoke about wanting to help his mother, Quincy Ricketts, and give back to his family.
Moore was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round in 2021. In his second career start, he caught a 77-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kyler Murray. However, injuries limited his play over the next two seasons. He was traded to the Atlanta Falcons in 2024 but suffered further injuries. In 2025, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings but missed the entire season after a second major knee injury in two years.
Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell expressed sorrow at the news. “While Rondale had been with the Vikings for a short time, he was humble, disciplined, and resilient despite injuries. We are heartbroken he won’t continue his NFL journey. Our prayers are with his family, friends, teammates, and coaches during this tragic time.”
Throughout his career, Moore was known for his resilience, versatility, and positive attitude. He was praised for his humility, work ethic, and the inspiration he provided to teammates and young fans alike. His college and NFL achievements highlighted his ability to overcome adversity and make an impact both on and off the field.
Moore’s death has sparked conversations about mental health and support for athletes. Fans, teammates, and coaches have highlighted the importance of understanding the pressures faced by professional athletes. Tributes have flowed across social media, showing the profound effect he had on people throughout his career.
Despite a career hampered by injuries, Moore left a lasting mark on football. From his early days at Purdue to his time in the NFL, he was admired for his speed, skill, and determination. His legacy includes not only his athletic achievements but the inspiration he provided for overcoming challenges.
Rondale Moore’s family, friends, and the wider football community now face the difficult task of remembering his talent, his joy, and his dedication. The NFL community continues to mourn the loss of a player who was described as “way too special” and whose life and career, though brief, made a lasting impact.
