Liverpool 5-1 Frankfurt Fightback Win
Liverpool ended their run of defeats in spectacular style, crushing Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 in Germany. The win brought relief for coach Arne Slot and joy for fans who had waited weeks to see their team back in form. The Premier League champions showed their class again, scoring five goals after conceding first for the fifth game in a row.
The night started with early pressure from Frankfurt. Liverpool went behind when Rasmus Kristensen fired a low shot past Andrew Robertson and into the far corner. But instead of collapsing, the visitors fought back with energy and precision. Within minutes, they turned the match around with three goals that silenced the home crowd and lifted their confidence.
Hugo Ekitiké, facing his former club, began the comeback. After a quick counterattack led by Robertson, Ekitiké sprinted through Frankfurt’s defense and calmly slotted the ball under Michael Zetterer to level the score. It was Liverpool’s 300th away goal in European competition. Moments later, Virgil van Dijk rose high to meet Cody Gakpo’s corner, heading powerfully into the net to make it 2-1. The third goal followed quickly, this time from Ibrahima Konaté, who connected perfectly with a Dominik Szoboszlai corner. Two goals from set-pieces in five minutes gave Slot exactly what he had been asking for in recent weeks.
Liverpool looked dangerous every time they attacked. Szoboszlai dominated the midfield, while Wirtz, returning to his home country, created chances with ease. The two linked beautifully in the second half, as Szoboszlai released Wirtz down the right. Wirtz then crossed low for Gakpo to tap in Liverpool’s fourth goal. Minutes later, Wirtz turned provider again, setting up Szoboszlai, who smashed a 25-yard strike into the bottom corner for the fifth goal of the night.
Despite missing several chances near the end, including from substitute Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s display was their best in weeks. Salah came on for the final minutes but could not add to the score. Still, the team’s confidence and attacking flow had clearly returned. Even with injuries to Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong, both expected to be out for several weeks, Slot could take pride in how his players reacted.
The match showed Liverpool’s depth and spirit. Federico Chiesa replaced Isak at halftime and played with intensity. Conor Bradley filled in well for Frimpong after his early injury. The defense, which had looked fragile in previous games, stayed solid and organized. Van Dijk and Konaté led by example, both scoring and defending with authority.
Arne Slot praised his team’s mentality after the match. He said the win was about “rediscovering our energy, our teamwork, and our joy.” He admitted concern for the injured players but focused on the positives. “We reacted the right way,” he said. “We didn’t panic. We played football again.”
Frankfurt’s supporters kept singing until the end, even though their team was outplayed in every area. The loss leaves them with defensive problems, having conceded 24 goals in 10 matches and none of their recent games ending with a clean sheet. Their attack had brief moments, but Liverpool’s pressing and passing rhythm were too much for them.
Liverpool’s five goals came from five different types of plays — counters, headers, crosses, and long-range shots — a sign of a team with variety and confidence. Szoboszlai’s goal summed up the night: powerful, precise, and full of belief. It marked a new chapter for Slot’s side, who will now aim to carry this form back into their league campaign.
After four straight defeats, the 5-1 win over Frankfurt was more than just a result. It was a message that Liverpool are back to their best — fast, fearless, and focused again.
